John
Storm and Dan Hawk at the helm of the Elizabeth Swann, under missile
attack from the CIA. If there ruse to re-direct the missile to Guantánamo
Bay had not worked. They could have shot the offending weapon down,
using Excalibur. Merlin was on standby, just in case.
Grateful
that John Storm is already en-route to Antarctica,
he agrees to help, and is temporarily seconded to the British
Royal Navy, as they realise the situation in Antarctica is deteriorating.
In particular, when the crew of the KoolArctic
contact their superiors to report the carnage onboard.
Where
it appears there may be a dangerous newly discovered species, or even
and alien responsible for the deaths of two crew members. The British
PM, Ministers and Secretaries of State, do not want to take any chances.
John
is made a Commander (Master), given that temporary rank as a naval attaché,
seconded to NATO and the MOD to give him authority
in all matters concerning the British
Antarctic Survey and any covert missions of His Majesty's Secret
Service. John refers to the Royal Navy as "The
Admiralty." And the 'King' as the "Chief," with reference
to his theoretical ranks as Commander in Chief of the British armed
forces.
In
fact, John has become a secret service agent, part of what was once MI6,
military intelligence. John only agreed to help out, because he admires
the policies of Honest Johnson, the nickname for Prime Minister Edward
Thomas. He is distrustful of many who operate in secret service circles,
especially Jack
Mason, a CIA
operative, who appears to have many alternative agendas, apart from
actually cooperating fully in whatever the missions he may be involved
in. Fortunately, Mason is not in the mix in this mission.
